I don't know what I was expecting with The Jewel, but it wasn't this. In a good way this time. It was a lot darker and twisted than what you'd think- especially with the gorgeous cover. In that aspect, I read Only Ever Yours by Louise O'Neill not that long ago, and The Jewel reminded me a lot of it- not in character or storyline- but the message behind the book. The way women (in this case, the Surrogates) are viewed and valued and used and treated in a world that has less morality than ours right now. It's deep rooted in power among the rich and Royal bloodlines.

I'm not going to pretend I know anything about the poem of Annabel Lee. I know it, of course, but I've never studied it, and although I do like poetry, it's not exactly my favourite thing in the world. I've seen Mary Lindsey's Ashes on Waves that made me want to read it, so when I saw Of Monsters and Madness I couldn't resist (I mean, have you read that title? Of. Monsters. and. Madness. It practically screams read me!) Besides, In the land of Gods and Monsters...I had Lana Del Rey's Gods & Monsters in my head the whole time (don't ask why, my brain doesn't know. And we're not talking about my love for Lana Del Rey, we're talking about the book, right? No more music talk.)

I enjoyed The 100, it was a fun, simple, easy mindless read that I needed, I liked the characters, the plot and world-building was a little wish-washy. However, what I hoped would happen in the next with the plot development, didn't come through in Day 21.

This one's hard, I've had a few good deals lately, and I do get some from friends/family, but I'm going with my favourite inexpensive one, which is my Collector's Edition of The Hunger Games (I actually had an Amazon voucher off Amber for Christmas and used it for that- so technically, Amber bought it.)

 

 

 

2) Wrath

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

 

 

JULIE KAGAWA, and when it comes to the Blood of Eden series, I'm sure you'll agree The Eternity Cure was mean, Kagawa, MEAN.  I love the series, I love how it concluded, but still. I've not gotten over that.

I'm going to start by saying WHY THE HELL DIDN'T I READ THIS SOONER?! Thanks for putting The Mission in the mail, Hachette. I probably wouldn't have read it otherwise, and damn, I would've been missing out.

The Hit (Boy Nobody) is both a shocking and slightly disturbing story that could or could not actually be real. You sometimes hear about it, it's something conspiracists  see and fear,  it's something that happens in a fight for War. Parents die, children get recruited. It's serious business and it's handled well and efficiently. I haven't read a book that's kept my focus like that, one that I couldn't just put down, for a while. I wasn't expecting it in the slightest.

Oh Feral, what am I going to do with you? On one hand you were crazy and weird and pretty much what I love about these types of books. But then on the other hand, it was not at all where I wanted or thought it would go. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing it just really had this big build up that kept you guessing what was going on that by the time it was revealed it deflated.

 Edible Books is exactly as it says on the tin, edible books. No, really. Edible Books will be recipes inspired by food mentioned in books, with taste testing's of course (sorry, not by you, by us.) ;)

 

 

 

Hello again lovelies! It's Thursday, so it's Amber- and I'm back. The past fortnight we had a double edition of Cosplay Antics, so today is the first ever Edible Books post. Kirsty and I have started some layout planning for the next couple of months, for themes. We're playing safe for the first post, with a series that is a big part of ours- and everyone's childhood/life. It is in the title, so you should know what I'm talking about...Harry Potter of course! Recently, I have been re-reading the Harry Potter series, and last weekend I went to the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour in London- Kirsty went back when it first opened up, so we've both been there now. That was the inspiration for this post, and to create and back some yummy noms. And let's be honest, who doesn't like Harry Potter?  You're crazy if you don't.

As I said before that little side-track, I've felt inspired, so while I was at the tour I was able to buy my very own Chocolate Frog, and while I did want to keep it, I ate it, because who wouldn't? Kirsty still has hers, she's an alien.  Since I ate it, I just had to put my own spin on it and see what I could do with it.

So, I present, my Chocolate Frogs.

This is the box the HP Tour keeps the Chocolate Frogs (and card in,) and of course I'm going to keep it to use as a prop for different things, which came in handy today with making the frogs. :)

If anyone asked describe Amity in one word it would be disturbing. Because if I said this was disappointing, my house might kill me. Firstly, let's talk about the false marketing shall we? It sounds like an Amityville Horror retelling, looks like an Amityville Horror retelling, the house is described like Amityville and It's even called Amity, so guess what it is?

Dangerous Girls was on my radar last year, and although it had all these amazing reviews I didn't think it was for me. When I saw Dangerous Boys and thought why not? Why not indeed, because oh damn. I just- NO WORDS. So this will probably be a rambling review because it's one of those that are hard to talk about without spoiling, but is so freaking mind blowing that I just want to spoil it. But, I won't. Because you seriously need to read it for yourself and get all the feelings because it is amazing and twisted with a heavy dose of psychology and is it bad to say how much I freaking love how twisted it was? It has some serious shit going on, and something like this you shouldn't really love but I did, because it was fascinating and  see? Rambling.

Back last week in my MCM Part 1 post, I talked about how I created and made my Classical/Dapper Mickey Mouse. Cosplay outfit for MCM back in May, this week I'll be showing you how I made the rest and the final product.

Note- I cannot use a sewing machine, so everything I do is glued or hand sewn. Not bragging or anything. ;)
