Review: Poison

Poison
Author:

Publication Date: March 12th 2013
Publisher: Disney Hyperion

Sixteen-year-old Kyra, a highly-skilled potions master, is the only one who knows her kingdom is on the verge of destruction—which means she’s the only one who can save it. Faced with no other choice, Kyra decides to do what she does best: poison the kingdom’s future ruler, who also happens to be her former best friend.

But, for the first time ever, her poisoned dart . . . misses.

Now a fugitive instead of a hero, Kyra is caught in a game of hide-and-seek with the king’s army and her potioner ex-boyfriend, Hal. At least she’s not alone. She’s armed with her vital potions, a too-cute pig, and Fred, the charming adventurer she can’t stop thinking about. Kyra is determined to get herself a second chance (at murder), but will she be able to find and defeat the princess before Hal and the army find her?

Once upon a time in the Kingdom of Mohr, two girls became best friends- Princess Ariana, future Queen, though from ill health does not meet many new people and is confined to her room, and Kyra, first year potion apprentice, and through her talents helps sneak Princess Ariana out undetected. Now at 16, one has to kill the other.

Kyra, one of three Master Trio of Potioners, must do what she has to do to save the Kingdom, and the only way of securing the future-is to kill the future ruler. By poison, their future, and Mohr will be safe. She's a sure hit, it should be easy- as easy as killing your best friend can be, the poisoned dart was thrown...

Booking Through Thursday: Choosing

Booking Through Thursday is a weekly meme, hosted by btt2, about (mostly) books and reading.

I don't know if there's a Booking Through Thursday this week, so for today I'm going through one I've missed.

What makes you choose the books you read?
Genre? Reviews? Certain authors? Covers? Recommendations?

I'm not too bothered by the genre, I'm interested in a lot of different ones. For me, it's reviews and certain authors. If I'm buying a book, I mostly always read the reviews first, the good and the bad to determine if it's for me or not. Authors, if I've read previous ones of there's and I've loved them I'll buy them without looking. I'm not one for recommendations unless I know said person are on the same front as me, with what's important in a book, since it's different for everyone.

And I'm sure, as a lot of people, I'm lured in by a pretty cover every now and then, but I've learned my lessons on some pretty covers.

After years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. Stacking the Shelves (#8) & Recap

STSmall
Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga's Reviews.

I bought one (!) this week, but it's a pretty awesome one.

Wednesday morning, I had this surprise in the mail for review.

(Thanks Hodder & Stoughton!)

Now, this is about books, so it counts! :)
So Tuesday I went on a road trip, and we passed through the village of Lacock, where the Abbey's been used for film, 1995 BBC production of Pride and Prejudice,  and some of the grounds for Harry Potter.

Unfortunately, since we were only passing through I didn't get to go inside the grounds and see everything, because the majority wanted to go to the beach, but I snapped a quick picture outside the wall. I like the beach as much as the next person but when I heard about the Harry Potter thing, I'll admit, I was pretty pissed, because really? :( But I've been to the Studio Tour last year and saw, this

and drunk, this.

So...no, I'm still pretty annoyed.
