Project Blue Monday: All the Bright Places

Blue Monday is supposed to be the most depressive day of the year, some of us teamed up with Penguin for Project Blue Monday, and to make it a little brighter we were sent signed proofs of All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven and a lot of swag to give out to whoever you wanted to give it to, to make their day a little brighter, and we were to record their reactions, or find out their bright place, or anything involving All the Bright Places.

What I did, I gave Amber one and gave the pack to her to pass on to a friend and for that friend to pass out to their friend, etc.  I've only posted Amber's involvement in Project Blue Monday here, as Amber is sometimes a part of the blog.

Since Amber's written down her Bright Place, I'm going to share a few of my Bright Places.

What're your "Bright" Places?

I love those photographs, is the grave a specific "bright place?" I think my bright place would be Lincoln Square. It's a neighborhood about 10 minutes away from me and it's always filled with laughter and so much life. Plus they have awesome festivals all year round.

And a fabulous bookstore that sells wine.

Thank you! :) It's my brothers grave, obviously it's not a happy place or bright place, but it's representing the cemetery, it's peaceful and quiet, and I do hate going there, but it's nice to just be for a while, you know?

Bookstore that sells wine, must. ;)
Aw, this is amazing! I have a lot of thoughts about this book and mental health that I am trying to write down, but haven't quite been able to yet. This is such a lovely thing to do, and I loved Amber's take on it! (Also, if you could let her know that the song is now stuck in my head, that'd be great ;) )

As for my bright place? Ah, this is hard. My kids are my bright place. I think I need to find more bright places though. Your bright places are lovely, and I don't want to pry about the grave, but it is lovely, albeit heartbreaking. Very beautiful post from you and Amber!

Ha, I'm to blame. ;) I did the video (first try) and love Tears for Fears, and felt it fit, I had it stuck on repeat. Your kids are the perfect bright place. :) No, it's fine, it's my brothers and grandfathers (he dies before any of us grandkids were born) I know it's not exactly a bright place, butt it is nice and quiet and peaceful, and now, I can talk about the good memories, and it's nice to just get things out that you can't tell anyone. Amber says thank you! :)
I really want to read this book! It sounds amazing. As for my bright place...hm...I just love being with the people that make me most happy, wherever that may be. A bookstore, a library, a movie theater, a concert, etc.

It is so, so, amazing. I need to go to more concerts, just the perfect atmosphere. :)
I haven't heard of Blue Monday but I absolutely love this! So cool! I think my bright place (the most accessible one right now at least) would be this secret garden area at my university, it's a huge plot of grass surrounded by palm trees and I could just sit there for hours, it always cheers me up.

I hadn't either until Penguin emailed. Sounds like the perfect peaceful place. :)
Wow this is amazing! My bright place is probably my bedroom because obvious reasons but being stuck in another world through reading is pretty damn amazing as well. :D

Loved it, such an important message, I want to reread it but probably when I feel like crying, haha.
This is such a neat idea! Most of my favorite bright places include lots of natural light and a quiet space.

Quiet spaces is why I love the cemetery, and settled snow when it's just all silence. :)
YES! TEARS FOR FEARS!! Man, it KILLS me that everyone thinks that Gary Jules is the original Mad World artist. HE'S NOT. His version is fantastic, but he's not the original. This idea is so great! And man, you live somewhere gorgeous if those photos are local. Is the last one a particular hall/concert or just concerts in general?

THANK YOU. Exactly, and sometimes I do prefer a cover, but definitely like the original better, I mean, Gary Jules's version fits with the overall theme, I guess, but you can hear the irony in the lyrics with Tears for Fears.

The woods and beach were in England, can't remember where the woods were, but the beach I took on the Weston-super-Mare promenade. Go there at least once a year.

That one was at the CIA in Cardiff when me and Amber went to see 30 Seconds to Mars, and so much fun, we were on the side balcony, so you could see backstage, and I swear that picture was a total fluke, But yeah, just meant concerts in general, never thought I'd be a concert person (the first one I went to was back in 2009 with Paramore, You Me at Six & Paper Route) but got hooked.
YES. YES SO MUCH. Man, I'm so glad I finally found someone else who appreciates Tears for Fears! (...other than my mother.)

Lololol I did like a triple take when you said at the CIA because...well...the CIA can only be one thing to an American! So is it like a performance space there? It's a bit surprising that as a musician I've only been to a couple of concerts. It makes me sad :( ...but it comes down both to not having the moneys and never having my favourite bands tour near me :(

Haha, I blame my mother.

Cardiff International Arena, ha, though It's also called the Motorpoint Arena (which is probably why.) They do a lot of things there, mainly live music and live shows. I've only been to five, not a lot of my favourites come over here either. :(
